How Chiropractic Care Works With Your PI Attorney — Not Against Your Case

If you've been in an auto accident and you're working with a personal injury attorney, there's a good chance someone has already told you to "see a doctor." But maybe no one has explained exactly how medical treatment — and specifically chiropractic care — fits into your PI case.

Here's the clear, jargon-free version.

Your Treatment Record Is Part of Your Case

In a personal injury case, your attorney needs to demonstrate two things: that the accident caused your injuries, and that those injuries required treatment. Your medical records are the evidence for both.

Every appointment you attend, every finding documented, and every treatment you receive becomes part of the record that supports your claim. That's why consistent care with a provider who documents thoroughly isn't just good for your health — it's essential for your case.

Conversely, gaps in treatment, missed appointments, or seeing providers who document poorly can create openings for the insurance company to minimize your injuries or dispute the connection to the accident.

What a Letter of Protection Is

One of the biggest fears accident victims have is: "I don't have health insurance" or "I can't afford treatment right now." That's where a letter of protection (LOP) comes in.

An LOP is an agreement between you, your attorney, and your treating provider. It works like this:

  • Your attorney sends the provider (us) a letter stating that our fees will be paid from the proceeds of your settlement

  • We treat you now, at no cost to you, and defer payment until your case settles

  • When your case resolves, our bill is satisfied from the settlement

You don't pay out of pocket. You don't go without treatment. And your attorney gets the documented medical record they need to build your case. It's designed so that your financial situation doesn't stand between you and the care you need.

At Louisiana Chiropractic Center, we work with letters of protection regularly. It's a routine part of how we serve PI patients in Metairie and the French Quarter.

What We Document and Why It Matters

Documentation is where a lot of chiropractic offices fall short on PI cases — and it's one of the areas where LCC sets itself apart.

When you come in after an accident, Dr. Ford will conduct a thorough initial examination and produce a findings report within 72 hours. That report covers:

  • The nature and extent of your injuries as documented at intake

  • The mechanism of injury (how the accident caused the specific findings)

  • The recommended course of treatment

  • Objective clinical findings — range of motion, orthopedic testing, and more

As your treatment continues, your records are updated to reflect your progress, any changes in your condition, and the ongoing clinical picture. When your attorney needs records, we get them out promptly.

That 72-hour initial report commitment isn't just a number we picked. It's a promise to your attorney that they can count on us to move quickly — because in PI cases, delays have consequences.

We Don't Give Legal Advice. We Give You What You Need.

There's an important line we don't cross: we don't advise patients on their legal strategy, suggest what their case is worth, or make any representations about settlement outcomes. That's your attorney's job.

What we do is treat your injuries accurately and thoroughly, document everything correctly, and communicate reliably with your legal team. We're the medical side of your case. Your attorney handles the legal side. When both sides do their job well, you get the best outcome.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

If you're coming in after a car accident and you have an attorney, bring:

  • The accident date and a brief description of what happened

  • Your attorney's contact information (name, firm, phone number)

  • Any police report or accident report number you have

  • Insurance information for the at-fault driver, if available

  • Any other medical records from ER visits or urgent care after the accident

If you don't have an attorney yet, that's fine too. We can still evaluate and treat you, and we can help connect you with resources if you need them.
